Hanging Directional Sign

Directional signage focuses on effectively helping people find their way. As a subset of architectural signs, the emphasis is on legibility and clarity of information. With such an important task, like aiding navigation or warning someone of danger ahead, it’s no surprise that high quality design and fabrication is so crucial to the success of directional signs. Examples can include something as small as a custom washroom sign or as large as a full campus map.

Why are directional signs so integral? Well, when you see a bold sign warning you about avalanches ahead, the benefits are obvious. But there are a lot of directional signs that are used for less dramatic purposes, that lead to amazing results. For instance, a town with great street signage, that give visitors plenty of notice about main points of interest, can dramatically reduce travel time. In a domino effect, this means that less gas needs to be used, that visitors will be in a better mood, and that they will have more time to explore and support the town! Over time, this will positively influence gas emissions in the environment, the public perception of the area, and the economy of the town.

So, when planning the location of your directional sign, ask yourself these questions. Is your sign noticeable? Is it blocked by anything in the environment? Does it need something to reduce glare? Is it accessible? Another key element for directional signs is environmental conditions. Directional signs are often found outside, so they need to stand up to whatever weather they encounter. Ensure they’re built from sturdy materials that can handle local conditions. And it’s not just mother nature that’s a concern, people can be tough on signs too! Parking signs, in particular, can be dinged by careless drivers. By periodically checking on your sign’s condition, you can make sure they continue to fulfill their important purpose.
