engraved signs
Wood, metal, stone or plastic – whatever your sign’s material, it can benefit from engraving. Engraving is a technique that has been around for a long time and it takes dedicated craftsmanship to pull it off. The design, whether it’s a few words or an elaborate image, is created by cutting into a surface or by blasting an abrasive substance against it. Accordingly, due to its historical significance, engraving gives your sign a sense of elegant gravitas. While some sign manufacturers continue to use hand-engraving, Topmade uses CNC and laser-engraving to finish a project. This allows for high-precision detailing of complicated imagery, resulting in a sign with an established and timeless look.
Many types of signs are meant to be used by businesses or facilities to attract, direct and inform. What’s neat about engraving is that it can be used for smaller, more personal, sign projects as well. For example, as a homeowner, you might want to improve your curb appeal with a large, beautiful stone in your front yard that’s engraved with your address. Or maybe you want to formally organize your garden with some professionally made plant labels. If you’re holding an event, you can even have some award plaques and name tags created. While the competition may be informal, this extra touch can be very meaningful to award recipients.
It may be a time-honored technique, but that doesn’t mean engraving must be traditional or old-fashioned. Determine the style you want for your sign or project and it can be achieved with engraving. For example, here a few design options to consider. You can have the entire design engraved, or simply use engraving to highlight certain parts. And if you want the dimensionality of engraving but you need a little more drama, you can always consider painting the hollowed-out areas. Gold, for example, will really stand out.
