menu boards
Even after a customer enters your restaurant, the job of your signage isn’t done. How you arrange and display your menu items can have a significant impact on if, and what, people order. You want to inform your customer, with carefully organized categories and quality food photography, but you don’t want to overload them. There is such thing as too many choices!
If your menu items change often, you might be interested in a menu board you can update yourself. For instance, many cafes use chalkboard or panel board signs. The hand drawn artistry and flexibility of a chalkboard also lets you add a bit of personality, via a specialized drawing style, and hop on viral trends with relevant jokes. If your store is appealing to customers as less corporate and more informal or organic, it’s a great sign to use.
If you have a more fixed set of offerings, you can design a complex sign, or number of signs, that adds to your store’s ambiance. The benefit of a more permanent fixture is that they are low maintenance and you can plan for bigger budget photography and materials. For instance, adding back lighting to your food photography photos can help the items “leap out” at the viewers in a mouth-watering way. If you incorporate unexpected materials, like clear plexiglass, into your menu board, these special touches will be remembered by your customers and set your store apart from others.
Once you decide on the type of menu board you’d like, you also need to plan on how your menu items will be laid out. There are many eye movement studies that show that, in general, we tend to prioritize certain areas of a menu over others. By taking this information into account, you can make sure your new promotions or top sellers get the perfect positioning on your sign.
